Santorini

Santorini's best introduction is on foot: the caldera-edge walk from Fira toward Oia, past a yellow and blue bell tower, the clifftop perch of Imerovigli, and the volcanic spire of Skaros Rock framed through a ruined archway. Oia itself is a town built for wandering — twin bell towers and blue domes overlooking the water, windmills catching the evening light, and the coral walls of Kastro drawing a crowd for sunset. Panagia Platsani anchors the town's main square, while a switchback staircase drops down to Ammoudi Bay, where the water turns impossibly clear around a fish tavern built out over the rocks, a glass of wine at lunch, and small boats bobbing beside a red volcanic cliff. A stop at Artspace Winery adds a tasting flight and local cheese to the day, and evening in Oia closes it out properly: bougainvillea and oleander framing the caldera from a hillside terrace, and finally the whole town lit up against the dark sea below.
